Fabulous Magazine Internship

Hello lovelies,

Again, it's been too long since I last posted but it's been a hectic last few weeks of my first year at University! I have interned, moved out my flat and gone back to work at home in the space of two weeks!

Anyway, this post is about my recent opportunity at Fabulous Magazine where I was able to intern for the duration of 3 weeks. I actually got the internship from seeing a tweet via +Fashion Workie (Great for anyone looking for work/internships in the industry).

Thus I began my first week at Fabulous Magazine..

Lucky enough for me, I live in Epsom so my train into work was exceptionally easy as there is an overground direct route straight to London bridge station. I literally have to walk a few steps over the road and I reach the News building! This great glass building stands up beside it's much larger partner (The shard).

Nice and early I was called up to meet the Fashion Editor Lynne who was so lovely and welcoming into the Office! The staff that were usually in charge of interns were both away so the way I learnt the ropes relied mainly on the other interns, but I didn't have to worry as they were really lovely too and so helpful.

As interns our main responsibilities included-

Checking Emails-

Many brands and PR companies would email every day asking for important items that they sent to Fabulous and they needed them sent back. As well as other important notices that needed to be resolved by us.

Returning Products-

This was one of the main tasks that us Interns were in charge of and it was really important that we stayed on top of it as it can quickly get out of hand! Basically, companies, brands and PR agencies will all send their new season samples of clothing, shoes and accessories for upcoming shoots and features and when they have been used or finished with it's up to us to get them all sent back without delay. Very time consuming but it needed to be done and you also got to see all the gorgeous clothes and accessories!

Handing out Mail-

As you can imagine a weekly magazine like Fabulous get a LOT of mail and it can't all be distributed by one person so us interns have to help out and get the post out. Most of the time it's clothing for shoots so the stylist or who ever has ordered it in will most likely get you to hang it up straight away, ready to be edited down and packed for their shoot!

Assisting on Shoots-

This was deffinatley a highlight of the role for me! I got to attend two different shoots during my 3 weeks at Fabulous and they were great fun each time. The first was a celebrity cover shoot where I got to meet Jess Wright (from Towie) and assist the Stylist for the Cover. The second was a features shoot where I got to assist again, this can be anything from un-packing clothes, steaming items, dressing the models and keeping everyone hydrated! Great fun and a real treat to get out of the office in some great studio locations.

Running Errants-

Most of the time these can be little things such as nipping down to the post room to fetch a specific delivery or phoning certain companies about products. However sometime they are a bit more exciting such as nipping to Oxford street and picking out clothes which is what I had to do on one of my last days! It was great fun and I felt great that I was trusted with such responsibility to pick the right thing. (although I do advise bringing some flat shoes for this sort of thing as I wasn't expecting the trip in my heeled boots and ended up nipping to Primark for some sandals on the way back, blisters were not pretty!! )

Overall I would say this role is great for anyone interested in the fashion industry and it does teach you that if you really want something you have to stick to it. The experience is invaluable as well as the people you meet that you could even find yourself working with in the future. It deffinatley not a light hearted job and does require a lot of effort and persistence but you do get rewarded for your hard work such as assisting on shoots and the lovely big beauty goody bag I received at the end of my 3 weeks!

Hopefully this gave you a little insight into the world of interning! If you have any questions i'd love to hear them! Thanks for looking and i'll be back soon!

Copenhagen Fashion Week!

As part of my course here at UCA Epsom, we went over to Copenhagen for Fashion Week towards the end of January. Although we were a little early for CPH Fashion week we did manage to go to a variety of exhibitions, shopping destinations and Copenhagen's Fashion Festival! As well as getting entry into one of the Fashion Week shows which was the insanely talented and unique minded Henrik Vibskov ( see pics below)!

We stayed in a great little hostel, close to everything that I speak about in more detail below! We visited the majority of museums as there were a lot of fashion exhibitions on around that time, as well as events in store's such as a free candy floss maker! The harbour is a must do in Copenhagen, even in the gloomy weather it was bright and beautiful. If you're one for exploring then i'd suggest the 'Green light district' as it's Copenhagen's very own slice of Amsterdam, be aware not to take photographs or run in the area (they have strict rules about it). Here's some photographs from the trip..

CPH Fashion Festival Guide
Downtown Copenhagen Hostel had a great vibe!

The Bronx burger bar was a delicious treat!

Beautiful CPH harbour

The Henrik Vibskov Show!

Danish pastry, of course!

Overall we had a great trip to CPH and I would definitely recommend any fashion enthuisast to book whilst in Fashion Week.  There is a range of places to go and things to see so it's all about planning your time wisely and making the most of it.. just FYI if your planning to go in January like us, Definitely take more clothing than you think you'll need because you will be needing it!
Highly reccoment the Downtown Hostel we stayed at, it had a great atmosphere and even served free dinner for 40 people every night if you were quick enough!

Thanks for reading and please ask any Q's or Queries if you're interested!

Parasian Fun!

So this post is a little late, but that's the usual just of my post's since being at uni! (I apologise) However, I absolutely HAVE to blog about this amazing trip to Paris I had with one of my close friends at the beginning of December. We had a fantastic time, exploring the streets of Paris with great big smiles on our faces! I'm going to post some pics below and let you know the things I highly recommend!

Our first glimpse of Paris- greeted by Beautiful sunshine!

Christmas decorations in Galeries Lafayette

Visiting the Tiffany carriage outside.. well Tifffany's!

Beautiful streets of Paris.
Visiting the Arc de Triumph with blue skies!

This was our first day in Paris! We got to see one of the most popular landmarks in Europe as well as seeing the stunning christmas displays in the biggest department store in Paris. It really was a fantastic first day to our trip, the sun made it even better!

Lunch in a little cafe behind the Eiffel Tower!

The stunning christmas stalls along the Champs Elysees

Dinner at the Marriott Champs Elysees

Macaroons from the Laudre Paris (AMAZING)

Day two consisted of lots of walking! Once we made our way round the Metro system that is. We started of at the Eiffel Tower, truly a sight worth seeing when in Paris. I mean it has to be done, doesn't it? A great monument and quite breathtaking the first time you see it! An icon of Paris and you can see why. We stopped and braved the cold to sit outside in a cute little cafe for lunch, baguettes and french fries were the first on the menu!

We returned to the Champs Elysees and had a look round the beautiful christmas markets, even had a little waffle to keep us going.. it was delicious! Talking of delicious.. the Laudre is the place to go! All the macaroon's you can think of under one delicately pretty roof, be prepared to wait if you want tea however!

For dinner we stopped of at the Marriot hotel on the Champs Elysees. Considering it was a sunday we were seating in a lounge area and surved just as well, a real first class service and gorgeous food.  Definitely worth a stop!

Our Final day in Paris was in my opinion of the best! We started of early and headed to the Grand Palais. It was truly breathtaking and super exciting for any fashion student as we all know it is the home of couture for Chanel! It had europes largest ice rink, right in the middle of it and we couldn't wait to give it ago! With the sun shining down through the gorgeous glass ceiling we were treated to a nearly empty rink! A fantastic morning and I would say a highlight of my trip. We followed on to see the eiffel tower one last time, it's a whole new ball game at night! Sparkling away like a sparkler on bonfire night it was stunning to see.

Overall we had a fantastic time in Paris and I definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of going, not just in the winter but I can imagine it being just as delightful in the summer too. Feel free to ask me any Q's if you have any :)

Thank's for reading and hope to hear from you!
